Behind the Askeladden project you find Tom E. S. Gundersen from the city of Stavanger on the Norwegian west coast. A dramatic landscape and untouched nature goes hand in hand with a booming oil industry and the most international mix of people the country has to offer. These are the grounds for both one of a kind inspiration and influence, and again the sound that makes Askeladden such a unique listening experience. The goal of the Askeladden project is to have fun with the creative process of music production, and hope this proves contagious for
anyone listening.
The name Askeladden originates from a 1000 year old tradition of Norwegian storytelling. Askeladden is the youngest of three brothers, and neither they nor his father thinks much of him. They ridicule his way of seeing beauty in simple things like the glowing ash. Often Askeladden finds himself walking in the footsteps of his two other brothers on quests the two have failed to complete. Because his brothers are of a selfish nature they always choose the wrong path, having no time for others and their mind on the price. Askeladden, never to busy for a good deed, always wins the princess and half the kingdom in the end.
